Spanish term or phrase: Ahuehuete
could you please give me the correct translation for "ahuehuete" (a large tree common to Mexico) in English?
Connie Castro
ahuehuete (Montezuma bald cypress)
Explanation:
Hello. Can I join the chorus line? The reason I send this is to say that everybody is right. Also to say that you are entitled to keep the name "ahuehuete", too gorgeous a word to be killed by the translator's punctiliousness. This term is also a million times more "american" than any translation you may get into English. You may add a bracketed translation such as any of the terms offered above by colleagues (ie.: Montezuma bald cypress, ...). Notice too that the ahuehuete is also native of South Texas and Guatemala...link 1: "Texas Native Trees: catclaw Acacia, Gregg Acacia, Roemer Acacia, sweet Acacia, twisted Acacia, Ahuehuete Alamo ". Link 2 shows you all the names plus photo and the bracketed term too. Well, happy pickings, good luck to all :-)

Mexican cypress

Explanation:
According to www.google.com, Ahuehuete, in latin stands for Taxodium mucronatum Ten, otherwise known as the Mexican cypress. In any case, knowing the latin name, you should be able to get a more specific name, if you're not quite convinced with this one.
