Spanish term or phrase: peineta calada
Ok so here is an architectural item that my none-specialist dictionaries haven't been able to cope with:

The faade of a church apparently culminates in a "peineta calada" with the shield of the Bourbons and an allegorical figure of fame.

Anyone know what this use of peineta refers to?

Explanation:
convex shell (most peinetas are convex and made out of shell)with open-work ...

This is what makes me believe that the peineta has a caved-in appearance inside of which you can place figurines (similar to an "ermita")

I extracted the following paragraph:
"Un edificio de arquitectura indiana y patrocinador indiano con un gran reloj incrustado en una peineta neoclásica que sobresalía y se agitaba a veces por encima del alero."

Thank you so much both of you for the work you did on this one "off" site. This is where one of you suggested (with evidence) "roof turret" and the other (with evidence)"pediment" - I cobbled together a description in which I managed to use the two terms!!! Pity I cannot split the points as easily. Eventually I had to give this to Maria for the very useful additional info I got from her in a private e-mail. (Please forgive me Eunice :-)

Goodnight then to both of you from a very tired Berni in Barcelona.

Explanation:
The facade of the church apparently culminates in a convex arch decorated with open-work depicting the shield of Bourbons and the allegorical figure of fame.
You can also say 'fretted arch'
Okay here's how I came to this conclusion.
peineta-An ornamental convex dressing-comb for the hair which women use.
Okay, so that's not it..BUT.. I looked up the work "convex".
convex-convexo, que tiene superficie curva más elevada en el centro que en los bordes u orillas, es lo contrario de cóncavo.
Eso a mi me huele a arco, no crees tú?

calado-open work in metal, stone, wood, or linen. Fret work
Hope this helps

Saludos y toda la suerte (bueno, casi toda)

Bye

Yo de nuevo

Explanation:
Emblema- Crest of a coat of arms.
crested-Crestado, encopetado, coronado.

Ahora si me puedo ir a dormir agusto.
Hasta Mañana, si Dios quiere.
