Spanish term or phrase: Universidad Externado de Colombia
I know that several dictionaries say "externado" refers to day-students. Is that a fact? Are these Colombian universities so named because they only teach day-time students? Is there anyone who has first-hand knowledge of this?

universidad externado

Explanation:
this came up on "espalista" (a forum for members of the ATA spanish language divisioin). I believe this is the name of the university, and as such is not translated.
