The phrase is tyical of avaiation and has little to do with the military so here it translates as captain. Also it IS in the feminine but this is difficult to construe in English for obvious reasons , although you might want to put 'female' in brackets. Hope this helps,

Explanation:
'La comandante' could either be commander or major.

Also, a clarifier is needed. In this example, 'les' could either be 'to them' (masculine or feminine) or 'to you' (plural of course). The clarifier 'a ellas', 'a ellos', or 'a ustedes' would help a great deal.
