Cucumbers Explanation: I think the traditional spelling is "cohombros", but I've seen cocombros more in modern usage. In Spain, anyway. Hope this helps. |

cooking cucumber Explanation: I've found **one** website that mentions this vegetable, a site on Hindu yoga cooking. The recipe this appears in, *sabji*, is simply a vergetable curry. There are all kinds of sabjis. However, from the context, I gather that this particular sabji uses a *cooking cucumber*. I have no English name for this vegetable, but can tell you that it is a short cucumber, with green and white mottled skin, fatter in the middle and rounded at the ends. When cooked, it keeps a somewhat crisp quality, and has a mild flavor somewhat reminiscent of lettuce. I know about this vegetable because I have found it in Indian shops in Pittsburgh. If you live near any such shop (I don't right now), why don't you give them a call and ask them what the hindi name is. Or just use my descriptive term, if it will be adequate.
