Spanish term or phrase:el matrimonio había sucumbido
From a Dominican novel. I guess a guy's marriage fell apart? What do you all think? Fuller context:
"Todo aparentaba de maravilla, hasta que se dio cuenta de que nada sería igual, ya que el matrimonio había sucumbido."
Actually I thought this was the poster giving us more background.
I never do literal translation but you are departing too much from the original sentence, which is pretty straightforward, even adding elements that are not there. For one, you do not have the necessary context to do so as far as I know. But you've also managed to change the original style completely.
