Science

GEOSTATISTICS: An explanation of the use of SUPORTE would be even more valuable than a translation, though both would be great, thanks.

Explanation:
would appear to be the best choice.

Loosely, here's what's happening: The information obtained from the probes will be used in the estimation of the potentially exploitable resources. ("Exploitable" is the term of art in the prospecting business.) So a decision has to be made regarding the substrate (specifically, its dimensions) that will be used as the basis for the estimate.

Here, "substrate" refers to the set of blocks (another term of art in the oil/gas industry, referring to physical three-dimensional areas extending downward from the earth's surface or the sea-bed, etc.) that represent the potential physical production units. Then the wire-frame model (a three-dimensional computer-graphic rendering of the geological terrain, most often in the form of scalene triangles) is generated, based on the (seismic and sonic) data returned by the probes, and the analysis of the wire-frame model is used in the planning of the subsequent mining operations.

That's it, in a (somewhat weighty) nutshell.

Hope this helps!

Thanks HC, but doesn't an exactly equivalent word exist in Sp (substrato, subestrato)?
