You might have wondered - and really sorry for I couldn't think of it earlier: I've asked this to you, because there's virtually no active Kudoz community in the Spanish>Turkish direction. I was not considering translating 'reducciones indigenas' anyway, as the author himself left it in Spanish in an English text (he's Chilean, though, thus might have thought there would be no exact equivalent). I was just wondering whether this was the same, or more or less the same thing as the Northern reservations - fine nuances between the two wouldn't matter much to a readership at the other end of the world. And after all, there's no established Turkish word for 'reservation' in this sense, either. I had already formed the sentence as '... blahblah's called reducciones indigenas...' and was looking for a term to replace 'blahblah'. Community would sound obfuscating: 'left to fester in faraway reducciones...' So, I'm going to use a word that means just 'settlement' without any context, but is always used for the isolated and forced -in one way or another- resettlement of a minority group. I am grateful to all the help provided, by answerers and peer graders alike. Thank you everyone. |
