If that article's accurate, then Lydia's right. All I can say is that this larger meaning of punto is not the usage I've heard. Yes, more than one person may sell at a punto, but the ones pointed out to me have always been spots, not an area or territory.

I think the article confirms that it is in fact an area, a designated place where drug dealers do 'business' and usually known to users. Unfortunately, Pto Rico has many such areas..

This is part of an incident reported in a psychiatric evaluation, which I am translating: Ella fue amenazada de muerte con una Pistola por los dueños del Punto de Drogas de allí, "..Ellos me confundieron, pensaron que era chota, me salve por un pelo pues una persona que trabajaba en la Oficina pasó por el lugar y me identificó"
