A cyclist talking about a bad season he had because he was injured for most of it:
fue una temporada donde sólo pude correr una carrera en la que, además, acabé doblado.

Does this mean that the race 'did him in' so to speak, or does it have a more technical meaning?

I'm pretty sure it means he was lapped by some of the other riders.
"Doblar" does mean "to lap" as well as "to be doubled up".
