"...that you didn't hurt me when you left... Explanation: [Because] you can't blot out the sun with just one finger." This is a looser, more "English-equivalent" translation. The reason I suggest "because" as the first word of the second sentence is that here "pero" is being used as an element of emphasis, not with the intention of stating a contradiction ("but"). The speaker means that the loved one's departure is trivial or insignificant (= the size of a finger) in comparison with the depth of the speaker's love (= the size of the sun). |
