OK, I've never been so desperate in my translating life. Me estoy volviendo cimbrático. Piedad :-O

Formwork/shuttering
Explanation:
Hola Paul:
Soy arquitecto y he trabajado en construccion muchos años.

concrete forms

Explanation:
Sorry Paul, I only speak Swahili. :-(

My dictionary also says 'cimbra' can be 'arch centering' but in your context it sounds more like the concrete forms used in construction.

La piedad nos sobra. :-)

según el diccionario,
cimbra

cimbra autoportante=autocimbra

self-supporting debe solucionar tus problemas

Could autoportante be self-supporting? Just an idea:)

Centering A temporary framework over which arch elements are assembled until they are self-supporting.

A photo of this lovely cimbra autoportante (I think):
http://www.premex.com.mx/prod02.htm

didn't you try "bridge soffit" yet? (from previous Q)

Explanation:
See pic:
http://www.abam.com/project_gallery/sr509.html

Glossary definition:
Soffit
- the underside or lining beneath a beam, or lintel, or of any projection from the face of a building, eg a portico or stair or overhanging roof. The under side of an arch should properly be referred to as an intrados.

However, there is such a thing as a bridge soffit, which is the underside of the deck (top part).

Reply to Sheila: autoportante in structural engr. IS self-supporting. However, this guy had one hell of a weird problem with another type of auto- what was that, Paul?
