obra gris: building under construction, Optional Management Explanation: In Colombia when you refer to "obra gris" it means that the building structure (concrete structure) has been completed but it is lacking elements such as doors, windows, paint, etc. I hope this can help you. |

Works in Process = Obra en gris Explanation: which means that the structure is there and plaster is being applied to the walls. An architect has informed me that the term isn't common in the US. Dirección Facultativa would be the Work Manager or person empowered to oversee and direct the works. Best of luck! |

= see discussion below = Explanation: "Facultativa" = "optional," but "direccion" is less obvious. Without more context, it could mean guidance or management (as in the assigment of a foreman or supervisor); alternatively, it could refer to the location, order, or direction (or even a physical address) at or in which work is to be performed. -- Although raw, undyed concrete work is certainly gray, there were no clues to "obra gris" in any of the six Spanish and/or English construction reference sources on my bookshelves. However, the term does appear in several websites (cites below), referring to structures that have not yet been "terminada" (finished) but whose walls, floors, external electrical and plumbing connections, etc. are in place. Hope this points you in the right, um, direccion... -- HC members.tripod.com.co/construalpes/Ventas/htm [ and] www.nacion.co.cr/ln_ee/1998/abril/13/pais8.htm Reference: http://www.megacentrord.com/condiciones/condiciones.htm |
