Econometría = econometrics; deontología = professional [code of] ethics Explanation: The question of what to do with *deontologie* (French), in the context of courses leading to a professional degree, came up recently on the Lantra list. The opinions were unanimous that this term was *not* being used in the philosophical sense of deontology, but, rather, designated material used to teach professional how to behave appropriately for their profession. For translators, for instance, this would mean learning what to charge, what your obligations to your client are (confidentiality, punctuality, etc.). When I told my colleague, a philosophy professor, about the Romance languages use of this term, she thought it was a real hoot! Clearly, it has nothing to do with the much more limited English term, *deontology*! See Lantra archives for a discussion of *dontologie* |
