skirt Explanation: The skirt of a vessel is a metal cylinder or truncated cone welded to the bottom head of a vertical pressure vessel. There is a flange at the bottom of the skirt for the anchor bolts. The sole purpose of the skirt is to provide support for the vessel. It does not contain pressure and is required to be open to the atmosphere. I have spent 40 years in the mechanical design field, and I am answering from experience. You can confirm it by a search for "pressure vessel skirt" or by consulting the Pressure Vessel Handbook or ASME Code for Pressure Vessels, Section VIII> |
