Spanish to English translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering
Spanish term or phrase:estanquidad
Regarding fire extinguishers:
Todos los extintores de incendios y botellines deben de proyectarse de forma que permitan la verificación de su estanquidad a intervalos regulares.
Explanation: Like its French counterpart ("étancheité"), "estanquidad" has no elegant direct equivalent in English. It refers to the state of imperviousness or impermeability (although these two terms imply vulnerability to attack from the outside, as opposed to leaks from the inside -- which, in the context of fire extinguishers, is exactly the point.
Although it's a slightly awkward word, "leakproofness" is perfectly fine English, and accurately conveys the meaning of the Spanish word (and the French one).
