This appears in a record of an estate distribution:

"E. Svenssons kvarlåtenskap skall delas i två delar varefter ***hälften skall fördelas mellan J. Svenssons kvarlåtenskap*** enligt lag och den andra hälften jämte testamentslotten enligt E. Svenssons testamente."

It sounds as though half of E. Svensson's estate is to be distributed "between" J. Svensson's estate, but "between" does not sound right in English. Would it be correct to say "to" instead in this case? Thanks!

yes, I like "estate" as well. But I did not see the "fördelas mellan J. SVenssons kvarlåtenskap". It is unclear. Does one know what the J. SVensson's estate consists of? Is it not to be divided between the heirs of J's estate? The full sentence may help

Asker: Thanks, but my question is about "mellan"--"between" does not sound correct in English since the "half" in question only has one destination (J. Svenssons estate).
