”Fint fördelade kolpartiklar sammanbindande en elektrisk ström (som i bågljusledningar) giva det brilliantaste ljusfenomenet. Se här ett annat sätt: Tag en låga av ett ljus, en lampa, en gaslåga eller vad som helst, som innehåller glödande kolpartiklar. Stick in lågan mellan poltrådarna, så att strömmen slutes av lågan; då skall den rökigaste oljelampa förvandlas till en klart lysande stjärna.”
