"Sayang" is a one-word expression among Filipinos, particularly Tagalog speakers who are mostly in Manila, which pertains to the feeling you get when you spill something or see something get wasted. In addition to that, "sayang" is also uttered when you fail to capitalize on an opportunity (a missed kick at the soccer goal, for example). It is especially uttered more animatedly ("SAYANG!!!") when you had it so close (for example, when you failed missed the powerball or lottery jackpot by a number (as Americans would say..."close, but no cigar...)
