Tamil term or phrase: மணற் சோற்று
Greetings,

From Exercise 69 of Pope’s First Lessons in Tamil:
சின்னஞ் சிரியர்கள் செய்த மணற்சோற்றை ஒக்கும்.

It is another sentence for translation, so I’m afraid there is no proper context. I suppose that மணற் சோற்று literally means “sand-rice”, but what is it and how is it made, please?

Best wishes and many thanks,

Simon

குழந்தைகள் விளையாட்டிற் சோறாகக் கருதும் மணல்
Explanation:
Children used to play with small-sized earthen stove, pot and use sand assuming it to be rice. They play as if they cook rice (using the sand) and serve them.

The context equates a playful act (like the children cooking sand, assuming it to be rice) and nothing serious about it.
