Turkish to English translations [PRO]
Art/Literary - Folklore / Karagöz
Turkish term or phrase: Hacivat
Hi,

I hope it’s okay including a proper noun, but I was wanting to help some friends interested in Karagöz. (Some of them, annoyingly, think it’s Greek and not Turkish! The Greeks call him Καραγκιόζης, pronounced “Karangyozis”.)

Karagöz is presumably Blackeye or Darkeye, but I really don’t have a clue about how to translate the name of his companion, Hacivat.

Many thanks in advance,

Simon

disagree  Ali Bayraktar: Bu yaklaşımla Çince isimleri de olduğu gibi bırakmak lazım. Ama ben daha Çincede, Korecede, Arapçada, vs aynen orjinal alfabe de bırakılan isme rastlamadım. Okunuşlar verilir. Bunu İngilizce konuşan birine aynı şekilde telaffuz ettirmek zorundasınız.
