Как все-таки лучше писать нынче - Kiev или Kyiv?
А заодно уж - grivna или hryvnia?

Kyiv
Explanation:
Затверджена транслiтерацiя назви столицi.

Гривня (а не "гривна") = hryvnya

...Prices in Ukrainian would look as follows: одна гривня - - one hryvnya (гривня is a feminine noun). Два жетони на метро коштують одну гривню. - - Two metro tokens cost one hryvnia. (Here you have both "one" and "hryvnya" in the accusative case required by the verb коштують) ...

Kiev is also used in private letters, etc., but this is transliteration from Russian "Киев" but not Ukrainian "Київ"

Kyiv

Explanation:
Kyiv is used for the city name and all words derived from it, eg. Kyivan Rus, but Kotlety po kyivsky is still called Chicken Kiev with the old city name. Therefore, Kiev is still used in the English language.
