I am about to translate the second batch of a fairly long project. Although I have selected the appropriate TM, it does not populate in the Editor view; in the field in the upper part of the screen, it says "no open translation memory." However, I had already opened the TM, and it does show fully populated under the Translation Memories view. I also followed the instructions in the Help section as follows:

However, I had already opened the TM, and it does show fully populated under the Translation Memories view. I also followed the instructions in the Help section as follows:

"To open a translation memory:

Select Project > Project Settings from the menu bar. The Project Settings dialog box is displayed.

Select Language Pairs > [Source Language Name - Target Language Name] > Translation Memory and Automated Translation from the navigation tree. The Translation Memory and Automated Translation settings are displayed on the right. Any translation memories that are currently applied to this document are listed here.

Select the translation memories:

Check the settings in the Lookup, Penalty, Concordance and Update columns and change them if required.

Select Translation Memory and Automated Translation > Search from the navigation tree. The default settings used for lookups and concordance searches are displayed on the right, change them if required.

Select Translation Memory and Automated Translation > Penalties from the navigation tree. The default penalty settings are displayed on the right, change them if required.

Select Translation Memory and Automated Translation > Filters from the navigation tree. This is where you can create filters and penalties to be applied to translations retrieved from the translation memory when lookups are performed. The default filter settings are displayed on the right, change them if required.

Select Translation Memory and Automated Translation > Update from the navigation tree. The Field Values box is displayed on the right. It lists the values that will be appended to each new translation added to this translation memory. Select different values if required.

NOTE
If the field values available are incorrect, you cannot change them here. Translation memory management is performed in the Translation Memories view.

Click OK to close the Project Settings dialog box when you have finished.

The translation memory is opened in the Editor view."

Unfortunately, in my case the TM is NOT opened in the Editor view.

Any suggestions?

Try Project Settings in Translation Results window Dec 1, 2009

Hi,

It sounds as though with the method you describe you can only select TMs applied to your document and the TM from your earlier work is not displayed.

Try the following:
Open up your document directly in the Editor Window then go to Project Settings in the Translation Results section. When you click Project Settings, you get chance to add TMs in the box on the right. Click on Add > File-based translation memory and then you are shown the folder for TMs and you

I tried that, but it didn't work... Dec 1, 2009

Hi Roy,

Thank you for your suggestion. I followed you recommendation, but it shows the correct TM as having been already selected. I even tried removing it and adding it again (using add file-based TM), but when I return to the translation results window, it still says "No open translation memory or automated translation servers".

Any other suggestion?

Thank you,

Nikolaj

A couple more ideas Dec 2, 2009

Hi,

If the relevant TM turns up in the Translation Memories window, then you should be able to click it with the right mouse key and export the segment pairs. Then you can create a new TM and import the exported pairs. Hopefully, you will be able to select and use the new TM.

Another way, maybe even easier:
Does your TM still work with your previous job? If so, you might be able to open your old job for use with the TM and add the new files to the project. I've ne

Does your TM still work with your previous job? If so, you might be able to open your old job for use with the TM and add the new files to the project. I've never done this myself, but it is described in the Help under "How to add files to an existing project".

Perhaps one of these ways will work.

Roy

It fixed itself Dec 3, 2009

Hi Roy,

I decided to use the original project as you suggested, although having already done that, I didn't really think it would work. In fact, I had already added the new file to that project. This time, however, it is actually working. I am not sure what made the difference -- maybe it was because I did not even use SDL STUDIO for a couple of days, or maybe it works better on Thursdays. To make a long story short, it seems to be working now.

Thank you for your help.<
