Hello,

I'm a new Studio 2009 user (Freelance version), I need to revise a long Word 97-2003 file and the client has specifically asked to keep track changes in the doc file.

I am wondering if and how I can use Studio in this case for a faster turnaround.

I have seen other posts about working with track changes on, but I'm not sure I can proofread a Word document which is already in the target language, i.e. not an sdlixliff file.

Also, I do not know how to enable the "Review configuration" in the Studio editor instaed of the the "Translation configuration".

Trace changes <> Trados Nov 24, 2010

In general, T2009 rejects *.doc file with trace changes. On basic function of Word trace change, Word records all changes in a different color/coding even during translation (e.g. replacing characters or words with target language words): it is not logically possible. You just review the target *.doc file by enabling trace changes instead. Check with client before starting your task.

Yes, I know how Word track changes work and by now I had already figured out by myself that this was not feasable.

Why would someone want to translate a non-final document? Nov 28, 2010

I suggest you explain to your client that this does not make any sense at all as the translation process is at the end of the chain. A Word document with 'Track changes' on may contain several versions of text. Which one are you supposed to translate? All of them?

It is usual practice to accept all changes in a document before starting to translate it.
