I enjoyed Windows XP while it lasted, but then those security issues, pesky Wi-Fi connectivity problems (remember getting the IP address starting with 169?), as well as RAM limitations and hard drive limitations pushed me to a better alternative.

In addition, I run two Mac OSX versions on a MacBook Pro laptop: Mac OSX Leopard (10.6) and Mac OSX Lion (10.8). Why? For Mac nerds, the answer is Front Row (only compatible with Mac Leopard 10.6 and earlier versions).
Front Row is a media application that you control with an IR remote; I can watch the latest movie trailers that way.

I use on all my laptops windows 7. It is quite comfortable to me to use it.

I use windows 7 on my main desktop and Windows 8 on my laptop. The latter can be quite annoying, but I tend to use the desktop screen, instead of the start screen, and except for the irritating lack of the start button, it's not that bad.

Windows 7 and Mac OS X on the same computer, although I use the windows partition most of the time for translation, leaving the Mac side for my design work!

Total agreement here. Whoever thought up the "ribbons" setup deserves a hefty slap IMO. Things like this always make me wonder if Microsoft ever actually consult any real users about this kind of "improvement" before foisting them onto their customer...

XP is by far the best MS operating system. Vista was not so good.
Windows 8 on my new laptop is the pits. They try to get you to subscribe to something everywhere on the system, for example with Office 2013. They also demand you learn how a new thing works.
I just wiped out an old, slow laptop and put Linux on it. After wasting a day trying to get XP installed (without the use of a CD drive), I tried Linux. I had up and running within an hour. Much, much, much easier. ... See more XP is by far the best MS operating system. Vista was not so good.

My laptop and desktop both run off of windows 7, and I have an old desktop that I use to back stuff up on that runs windows xp and ubuntu.

I had to give it up because my computer died. This happens to me about every 3 or 4 years. If someone has a good idea how to get a new computer that would run it, I'd like to know. Even though it won't be supported after next year, it would be a joy to have it on a second computer and still be able to use it.

I use it because it came with my new laptop and it offers the best compatibility with CAT tools and although I have extensively used Ubuntu on my previous laptop and could use WINE to run Windows programs on Ubuntu, I do not want to be bothered with doing all that and possibly encountering compatibility issues when dealing with serious work that people are paying me for.
