A very good day to you!

My name is XXX from [REDACTED TO PROTECT THE GUILTY], the [REDACTED] subsidiary of [REDACTED] in [REDACTED]. We are one of the largest translation companies in [REDACTED], and [REDACTED] is currently ranked No. [REDACTED] in the global translation industry.

We have come across your profile from XXX / referred to you by XXX, and we would like to discuss the possibility of working together.

Try harder. Nice to see that they took the effort to address me by name though, if nothing else.

Just to make sure Jan 15, 2015

These "XXX" were in the email you received, they're not a part of "redacted", are they?

I need to ask, even though your note is clear, because it's just too hard to believe someone could be that... "smart".

Like I said, always appreciate when people address me by name. If nothing else.

That's the only reaction it deserves.

But yes, at least they took the moment to write in your name, instead of another XXX.

Amusing... Jan 15, 2015

...but it's certainly not the first time someone hit the Send button before finishing their email and it surely won't be the last time.

As someone tweeted so aptly the other day: "If you read your e-mails before you send them, they will be better than 90% of the e-mails out there."

That owuld be understandable if it was just "Dear XXX", but "My name is XXX"? That's truly bizarre.

@ Lincoln: Is it true that it's a really large company? Is it one of the household names in translation circles? Just wondering.

Company has Blue Board entries for eight locations (this came from its China branch) and appears to operate in 20 countries. I'm not qualified to tell if it's a household name in translation circles. Obviously they had a template and this particular person forgot to replace everything except the recipent's name.

Their rates are low, though not abnormally so for this language pair. The problem is that they require Trados and the delivery time requirements stated in the email are stup

Didn't reply. Actually got a phone call from them so I had to write to decline. Still don't think they realized that they XXXXed up.
