English to Chinese: APP translation General field: Tech/Engineering Detailed field: Computers: Software
Source text - English Much has been said about how connected devices, whether in college lecture halls or elementary school classrooms, can distract students. GoSoapBox aims to show how such devices can also help keep class on track.
The startup, which is launching Tuesday, makes a web-based app that serves as a constant back-channel to classroom discussion. Students can use it to post questions about the lecture, vote up questions their classmates have already submitted, set their statuses to “confused,” and contribute to polls and questions posted by the teacher.
“With the app, students are less likely to get distracted because they’re staying engaged with the material,” saysGoSoapBox co-founder and CEO John Pytel, who says he got the idea while attending large lectures at the University of Michigan. “The questions they have are getting answered.”
The teacher is also saved from making disruptive changes to the lesson plan in order to accommodate the new technology. All of the behaviors on the app — indicating confusion, responding to questions — are natural in classrooms. Theoretically, the technology just makes it less disruptive and less intimidating for everyone to participate while providing teachers with instant feedback.

Source text - English Mobile technology is making it easier than ever for people to research products and connect with businesses while they’re on the go. But we all know that sometimes it helps to speak to a real person before making a purchase decision.
In fact, research shows that 52% of smartphone users have called a business after looking for local information on their mobile devices. Calls are key in helping consumers connect with businesses in the digital age, so incorporating a click-to-call strategy on mobile is crucial for any company that does business over the phone.
Companies big and small have put click-to-call functionality front and center in their mobile ads to reach customers on the go, and have seen impressive results. For instance, Comcast incorporated click-to-call ads into their mobile strategy, and now find mobile drives more than 10% of online sales. Esurance also reduced their cost per acquisition by 20-30% compared to other channels by using Google mobile ads with click-to-call.
With more than 20 million calls made through Google click-to-call ads each month, it’s clear that mobile works when driving calls to businesses. In fact, our studies have shown that adding Call Extensions to mobile ad campaigns have improved advertisers’ average click-through rates by about 6-8%.
But as any business knows, getting customers to call is only half the battle. That’s why we’ve invested in features like Google call forwarding numbers, which show detailed reporting on calls generated from your ad campaign such as call start and end time, duration and caller area code.
English to Chinese: Subprime Crisis General field: Bus/Financial Detailed field: Finance (general)
Source text - English On Tuesday the Federal Reserve cut short-term interest rates another three-quarters of a point to 2.25 percent, the lowest level since the end of 2004. That's just days after its unprecedented decision last weekend to provide $30 billion in financing to JPMorgan Chase in its bid to acquire the beleaguered Wall Street firm Bear Stearns. The central bank's recent moves have been dramatic, but will they improve the economy—or, at least, head off further crises?
The Fed's emphasis seems all directed to keeping consumers spending and borrowing, and to keep asset prices high. That is just more of the "hair of the dog," or exactly the opposite of what we need. It will also feed into the collapse of the dollar, which has been a big cause of the recent uptick in inflation, especially in energy. The Fed can't stop a recession; it's already underway. We have to switch gears from a low-saving, high-spending country to nearly the opposite. It's impossible to make that switch without going through a recession. The current strategy will just drag out the process.
