These heroes of finance,” Henrik Ibsen wrote, “are like beads on a string - when one slips off, all the rest follow.” The collapse of the Western financial system has exposed incompetence, hubris, cupidity and, in some cases, venality. A procession of former top bankers has expressed regret that things went wrong, but not exactly culpability for any specific failing.
Unsurprisingly, public anger focuses on bankers' bonuses. Annual bonuses form a large part of bankers' remuneration and are supposed to reflect personal performance and company-wide profitability. The management of RBS, HBOS and others did not understand the risks they were taking on and contaminated the banking system with a cascade of bad debts. Bonus payments for bankers involved in gross strategic errors are not just a reward for failure. They are, in the phrase of John Kenneth Galbraith, in the nature of a warm personal gesture by the individual to himself - and this time, at public expense.
If bonus payments were more closely tied to long-term performance, then traders would be less willing to take big “bets” (the term is in widespread use) in the market. I do think that the experience gained in different business sectors allows me to help people out in translating some business documents.
I have been living in Dublin for 3 years and working in a credit card department of a very well known bank for 2 years.
In my current work, I have the possibility to talk to many different english speakers from many different places around Europe and abroad. So that allows me to have an interesting and extense vocabulary.
Please, do bear in mind that I will not be accepting any work. I will not deceive myself neither clients regarding my capacities and knowledges. For sure, I will do my best in translating if you give me the opportunity... .
