The 2-strand slab caster with straight molds and casting-bow radii of nine meters each will be capable of casting a total of 3.6 million tons of steel per year. The cast slabs will have thicknesses of 230, 250 and 280 millimeters and widths ranging from 1,000–2,150 millimeters. The caster will be equipped with a wide array of technological packages. This includes DynaFlex for the online flexible adjustment of the mold-oscillation parameters, Smart Mold which allows the fast exchange of worn copper plates on the basis of its cassette-type mold design, LevCon for improved automatic mold-level-control and Mold Expert for enhanced strand break-out protection. Dynamic mold-width adjustments will be possible with DynaWidth. Strand EMS (electro-magnetic stirring) will be applied to ensure a high internal strand quality of the cast high-silicon and high-carbon steel grades. Advanced caster segments of the type Smart Segment will serve for the online and fully automatic adjustment of the slab thicknesses. DynaGap Soft Reduction technology will allow the strand taper in the area of final solidification to be dynamically adjusted for an improved internal strand quality. The Level 2 Dynacs secondary-cooling system featuring dynamic strand-cooling management ensures ideal cooling conditions according to the respective steel grade. I-Star Rollers (Intermediately supported trans-axle rollers) will be used for an optimized strand-shell support contributing to improved slab quality. This project also includes the supply and implementation of Dynacon Level 2 process optimization for two 80-ton converters in Steelmaking Plant Nr. 2. With this automation system the exact end-blow calculations can be carried out to achieve the targeted decarburization level in the steel bath on the basis of converter offgas analyses carried out by the Lomas measurement system. During oxygen blowing the process model will also cyclically calculate the decarburization rate, the chemical composition of the steel and slag as well as the temperature of the liquid steel. Converter tap-to-tap times can thus be notably shortened with the application of Dynacon.
