I am a biologist (genetics, ichthyology) and historian with 40 years experience translating Russian scientific papers, official and archival documents into English (US). I have a particular expertise in translating Russian handwriting, abbreviations and "Sovietspeak" due to my extensive research activities with Soviet archival materials. I am the author of 150 scientific papers published in leading journals, the primary editor of the major volume on sturgeon species (I translated over 30 papers from Russian to English while working on this text) and my first history book was recently republished in paperback by Basic Books (2004-available on Amazon.com). My areas of historical expertise are WWII, Soviet history (especially Soviet terror), Soviet secret services (very deep expertise) and 20th c. intelligence services (American, British and Soviet). Please see www.vadimbirstein.com for a short biography and a link to my CV in PDF format.
I charge $25 a page but am open to negotiations. I am interested in translating anything from one page documents to entire books. For larger projects I will supply a sample page of translation at no charge.
