Born and raised in Germany I have come to live and work in the U.S. more than 20 years ago. Here I have lived a bi-lingual life, privately as well as in business. The constant back and forth between German and English has kept my skills in both languages sharp and ALIVE.
I believe that translating from one language to another is not merely a matter of finding the right word. The translator must not only have a 'dictionary' in his head, he has to be able to feel both languages. Translating is about verbal knowledge, to be sure. But a main ingredient is emotional and cultural insight into both languages, nuance, turn of phrase, the pure love of expression.
I have translated business proposals and letters, contracts, web sites, magazine articles, poetry and sections of a text by Freud (Studien Ueber Hysterie).
I have written original work - health columns, magazine articles - in either language.
I have done voice overs in German.
