Source text - English The Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS) is an affection that causes the sleep fragmentation due to countless awakenings. Therefore the repairing sleep capacity is diminished triggering diurnal symptoms such as fatigue, low attention span, poor memory and reduced concentration. The P300 provides information about the auditive system integrity as well as, according to some authors, alertness and cognition. Thus the use of P300 was considered in order to assess OSAS carriers and compare them to a control group. In this study a total of 66 subjects were assessed and divided in two groups, 12 subjects in the control group and 54 in the OSAS group. Audiological tests, polissonography and the P300 were carried out in all subjects of the study. The results showed that all control group subjects presented responses to P300, whilst 18 subjects (33%) from the OSAS group did not indicate responses to that wave. Only the amplitude was statistically significant in the comparative statistical analysis of P300 between the two groups.
Translation - Portuguese A Síndrome da Apnéia Obstrutiva do Sono (SAOS) é uma afecção que provoca a fragmentação do sono devido inúmeros despertares. Portanto, diminui a capacidade restauradora do sono provocando sintomas diurnos como fadiga, baixa capacidade de atenção, da memória e da concentração. O P300 fornece informações sobre a integridade do sistema auditivo, e segundo alguns autores sobre a atenção, estado de alerta e a cognição. Com isso, pensou-se na utilização do P300 para avaliar indivíduos portadores de SAOS e compará-los a um grupo controle. Neste estudo, foram avaliados um total de 66 indivíduos, divididos em dois grupos, 12 indivíduos no grupo controle e 54 no grupo SAOS. Em todos os indivíduos da pesquisa foram realizados exames audiológicos, polissonografia e o P300. Os resultados demonstraram que todos os indivíduos do grupo controle apresentaram resposta do P300, no entanto, no grupo SAOS 18 indivíduos (33%) não apresentaram respostas dessa onda. Na análise estatística comparativa do P300 entre os dois grupos apenas a amplitude se mostrou estatisticamente significante.
