First you have to know the starting finger positions; each finger is placed on its own key.
The starting position is as follows: the main keys are #4 and #5. You can find these positions without even looking at the keyboard; feel for the small plastic, elevated 'tabs' on the #4 and #5 keys and place your index fingers on those keys.

10 Years Experience
I am a freelance translator/localizer with more than 10 years experience from the translation/localization field. As my CV reveals I have worked as an in-house translator/localizer, a freelance translator, and for a translation agency. This has given me a solid experience to build on as I now continue my career once again as an Independent Translator and Localizer.

Main field of translation: IT
Thanks to my years working in Technical support and Helpdesks both in Ireland and Sweden, I have an in-depth understanding of most IT usage areas, both software and hardware. I have a basic understanding of programming (Visual Basic studies) and have a good working knowledge of HTML and CSS code.

Other Fields of Translation
Attending the needs of a small translation agency I have also gained experience in other translation fields than IT. Some of them are:

Finiancial reports, annual reports
Intra-company communications/Human Resources information
Marketing
Geographic Information Systems
Navigation Systems
Building Automation
Photography and Photo Editing
Household electronics
Audio devices
Digital cameras
Electronic devices in general
Hearing aids
Canine and Equestrian Sports

How I became a translator/localizer
In 2001, after two years working with Technical Support at Gateway in Dublin, I started my career in the translation and localization business when I was employed by Microsoft to localize Windows XP. And have since then continued to build on my translation and localization skills, as well as my technical skills, through various employments, courses, and as a freelance translator/localizer.

CAT Tools
I have worked with practically all CAT tools available on the market.
As the list is long, I will only mention a few of them here: Trados (all versions, including Trados Studio 2011 and 2014), LocStudio, Resource Studio, MS LEAF, TRES, MemoQ, SDL Passolo, SDLX, Idiom Workbench, Déja vu, Alchemy Catalyst, Multilizer, Wordfast, RC-WinTrans and Translation Workspace. I generally find it quite easy to learn a new CAT tool and any other software needed to complete my work.

Processes – translation, localization, quality assessment, project management etc.
Throughout the years I have gained experience from just about all steps in the translation/localization process, including: File preparation, Auto-translation, Allocating files to translators, Translation/Localization, Machine Translation Testing and Post-Editing, Proofing/Quality assessment/Testing and last but not least Bug fixing.

High profile products I have worked on
Just to mention a few of the high-profile products I have worked on throughout the years: Windows 2k, Windows XP, Internet Explorer, Tablet PC, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Office 2009, Office 365, Cisco WebEx including help files, Panda antivirus, MapInfo Professional etc.

Hardware specifications/Marketing content/Intra-company communications etc.
Besides localization tasks, I have also extensive experience in translating texts such as IT hardware specifications and marketing transcreation for web content, Internal company communications for multinational companies and industry newsletters, medical documentation for end users, technical manuals and marketing content, end user manuals for software and hardware, brochures and web content.
