The climate of Ukraine.

Ukraine has a moderately continental climate, only south part of Crimea has subtropical features.

Ukrainian climate is characterized by frequent changes of the weather due to the arrival of cyclones (annual average is 45) and anticyclones (36). However, the days of clear, sunny weather in Ukraine are predominated – an average of 230-235 per year. Mountain ranges of the Carpathians and the Crimean protect Transcarpathia and Crimea’s southern coast from cold arctic air masses that come from the north.

The average January temperature is -8 C in the north-east of Ukraine and Carpathian mountains to 4 C in the south of Crimea; in July the temperature varies from 17 C in the north-west to 9 C in the Carpathian Mountains. The mountain areas have lower temperature during the year compare to surrounding areas.
