Source text - English Introduction
T3 is a primary determinant of normal post-natal
somatic growth and skeletal development, and an
important regulator of bone and mineral metabolism
in the adult [1, 2] Before puberty, thyroid hormone
may be the major prerequisite for normal maturation
of bone [3]. Untreated childhood hypothyroidism,
however, results in profound growth retardation and
delayed skeletal maturation. This failure of growth is
probably caused by a decrease of the direct effects
of thyroid hormones on skeletal growth and by
a secondary reduction in growth hormone (GH)
secretion and concentration of insulin-like growth
factor-1 (IGF-1) [4]. A catch-up period of growth can
be resumed by replacement of thyroid hormones [3].
After the onset of T4 replacement therapy, these
abnormalities usually resolve and a period of
catch-up growth ensues. In the past, it has been
suggested that catch-up growth in children treated
for congenital or juvenile hypothyroidism is complete,
and that such children usually reach their
expected adult height [5], but this is not supported
by recent reports showing a failure of catch-up
growth in children in whom treatment has been
initiated after a long period of untreated hypothyroidism
[6].
Several mechanisms can contribute to the pathophysiology
of growth failure associated with hypothyroidism.
These include: abnormalities of GH
secretion, IGF-I synthesis and direct action of low
thyroxine on growth plate and skeletal growth [7].
The objective of this study was to determine the
degree of linear growth retardation at presentation
and catch-up growth of children with neglected
congenital hypothyroidism (CH) after a year or
more of treatment with T4 in relation to changes in
their GH-IGF-I axis.

GİRİŞ
T3, normal post-natal somatik büyüme ve iskelet gelişiminin birincil bir belirleyicisi olmasının yanı sıra yetişkinlerde kemik ve mineral metabolizmasının önemli bir regülatörüdür. Puberteden önce tiroid hormonu, kemiklerin normal biçimde olgunlaşması için esas önkoşul olabilir. Bununla birlikte tedavi edilmemiş çocukluk hipotiroidizmi, derin büyüme retardasyonu ve gecikmiş iskelet olgunlaşmasına sebep olmaktadır. Söz konusu bu büyüme yetersizliği, muhtemelen tiroid hormonlarının iskelet gelişimi üzerine doğrudan etkilerinde bir azalma ve büyüme hormonu sekresyonu (GH) ile insülin benzeri büyüme faktörü-1 (IGF-I)’ nde ikincil bir azalmanın olmasından kaynaklanmaktadır. Büyümeyi yakalama dönemi, tiroid hormonlarının replasmanı ile sürdürülebilmektedir. T4 replasman tedavisinin başlamasının ardından bu anomaliler genellikle çözülmekte ve ardından bir büyümeyi yakalama dönemi meydana gelmektedir. Geçmişte, çocuklarda büyümeyi yakalamanın doğuştan veya juvenil hipotiroidizm için tamamiyle tedavi edildiği ve tedavi edilen bu çocuklarında genellikle beklenen yetişkin boyuna ulaştıkları ileri sürülmekteydi. Ancak bu gerçek, son zamanlarda uzun bir süre boyunca tedavi edilmeyen hipotiroidizm ardından tedavisine başlanan büyümeyi yakalama yetersizliği gösteren çocukların rapor edildiği çalışmaların sonuçları tarafından desteklenmemektedir.
Birbirinden farklı mekanizmalar hipotiroidizmle ilişkili büyüme yetersizliğinin fizyopatolojisine katkıda bulunmaktadır. Bu mekanizmalar: GH sekresyonu anomalileri, IGF-I sentezi ve gelişim plağı ile iskelet gelişimi üzerine düşük tiroksinin doğrudan etkisidir.
Bu çalışmanın amacı, prezentasyonda ve bir yıl sonra ihmal edilmiş konjenital hipotiroidizmli (CH) veya GH-IGF-I eksenlerindeki değişimlerle ilgili olarak T4 ile daha fazla tedavisi yapılmış büyümeyi yakalama çocuklarında lineer büyüme retardasyonunun derecesine karar vermekti.

Giriş:
Gastrointestinal sistemde meydana gelen mukozal hasar veya ülserler, halen dünyada ve ülkemizde önemli bir sağlık sorunudur. Koruyucu mekanizmalarla hasar verici mekanizmalar arasındaki dengenin bozulmasıyla oluşan hastalıkta birçok neden suçlanmaktadır. Antienflamatuarlar gibi kontrolsüz ilaç kullanılması, stres, mukozal iskemi, depresyon, vb. etyolojide önemli bir yer tutmaktadır. Ayrıca serbest oksijen ra-dikalleri stres ve antienflamatuar ilaçlar ile ilişkili mukozal hasarda patojen faktör olarak bildirilmektedir.
Gastrointestinal sistemde mukozal hasar ve ülser psikolojik olarak kolay etkile-nebilenlerde ve depresyona eğilimi olanlarda sık ortaya çıkmaktadır. Bu deneysel ça-lışmada, sertralin’in indometazin ile oluşturulan mide mukozal hasarı üzerine koruyucu bir etkisinin olup olmadığı ve varsa bu etkinin oksidan- antioksidan parametreler ile ilişkisi araştırıldı.
Translation - English THE EFFECT OF SERTRALINE ON GASTRIC MUCOSAL DAMAGE FORMED WITH INDOMETHACIN EMPIRICALLY
Introduction:
Mucosal damage or ulcers occurring in gastrointestinal system is at present an important health problem for both the world and our country. Many reasons are blamed for the disease that results from the imbalances among protective and harmful mechanisms. Taking uncontrolled medicines all but antienflamatuar engages with consequences such as stress, mucosal ischemia, depression etc. in ethiology. In addition, it is reported that free oxygen radicals are as pathogen factors on mucosal damage dealing with stress and antienflamatuar medicines.
Mucosal damage and ulcers emerging in gastrointestinal system are observed typically among people being psychologically susceptible and having a tendency to depression. In this empirical study, it was researched that whether sertraline affects gastric mucosal damage formed with indomethacin as a protective or not. If so, it was also investigated the relationship amongst this effect and oxidant-antioxidant parameters.
