Although the language genes have always been there, it took me some time to figure out that translation was the perfect profession for me. So, after secondary education I worked with horses, was trained to be a nurse for some time, dreamt of being a writer, did a lot of reading, topped it of with some travelling and here we have some of the ingredients of this translator's knowledge of several subjects. Of course that was not enough and I added more reading in both English and Dutch and took a three-year translation course. Giving free rein to my language skills has been the best career, and personal, decision in years. And of course it gives me not only the opportunity, but also the obligation to keep myself up-to-date with the subject areas I work in; what a wonderful excuse to read a lot, it is work...
