Technical author and illustrator in the field of railway engineering, focussed on monitoring and safety technologies since 2001. Due to increasing export activities of my employer, I'm meanwhile in the "pleasant embarrassment" to carry out translation jobs German-English and English-German by myself for marketing, sales and project documentation. Furthermore I work as a proofreader for documents by external translators in order to validate the technical correctness of their contents.
I studied fine arts and history for a teaching degree on higher schools (Gymnasium) and I hold a Ph.D. in history, but I'm not a certified professional translator. Though my school Englisch was quite poor, I was able to brush up my skills in daily use both in work and leisure times in the past years. Meanwhile I'm able to handle technical English quite well, though I'm realistic enough not to accept paid external translation jobs. However, I'm contributing to voluntary documentation projects like the wiki for the free Blender 3D content creation tool as a translator and sometimes editor, too. I'm eager enough to strive continuously for the best possible level in English understanding and writing achievable for a non-native speaker - for me a still long but fascinating way of learning. |
