I have been working since 1999 as a professional translator from English into Czech. I started my career after finishing my studies and a work period carried out in the USA (1997–1999) during which I also pursued translation and writing.
After my return to the Czech Republic, I started professional translation activities and my business expanded into other areas. The first of these were specialized translations for companies, individuals, and translation agencies. My specialist areas cover business, economic, technical, and EU documents. My another specialist area is literal translation. It is in that respective area that I particularly cooperate with the organization Swedenborg Publishers International for which I have translated 18 books so far (from English and Latin). I also provide desktop publishing services. For several years I was working as a chief-editor and translator for the philosophy magazine Arcana. Apart from this, I provide English interpreting and teaching.
My education is in economics (Technical University Ostrava, majoring in Systemic Engineering, graduated in 1991); I also took part in the post-grad "Program on Environmental Sciences and Policy in Eastern Europe", Budapest 1993; received M.A. in humanities within a post-grad study at Bryn Athyn College, USA, 1998. Furthermore, I completed a distance-learning program at the Swedenborg Open Learning Centre in Manchester, England 2002–2005.
I work with the Windows and Macintosh operating systems. I have basic HTML knowledge which enables me to translate directly into HTML code. I work with Trados Studio. A permanent high-speed Internet connection and unlimited volume of transferred data are a matter of course.
In my translation practice, I cooperate with several other translators/partners as well as Czech and foreign proofreaders. My goal is always to provide high quality services and, according to my capabilities, I gladly make myself flexible for my customers regarding their individual requirements for deadlines and other requests.
