In addition to translating documents and telephonic interpreting, I instruct a small class of home school (and cyber-school) children in Japanese as well as teach conversational English to native Japanese.

I have been an instructor of both English and Japanese for most of my life. While English is my first language, I became fluent in Japanese at age 10 when my family moved to Japan. I spent some of my time there as an English tutor for the Cosmopolitan Academy. At 16 my family moved back to America, where I have lived since. I enhanced my knowledge of the Japanese language and culture by obtaining a B.A. in Japanese Studies from Earlham College in 1995.

Additionally, I have taken a number of classes in teaching English as a second language.

In 1998 I applied my knowledge of Japanese language and culture as a Japanese Relations Representative for the Excel Switching Corporation. In 2002 I was a teaching assistant for Japanese 2 that was taught in a distance learning environment. While, not the primary instructor my background in Japanese studies enhanced the course for the students at my site, as I was able to provide personal support for material being taught. Finally, during spring of 2004, I served as an Adjunct Professor in the Asian Studies Department at Gettysburg College. During that semester I was one of two instructors who jointly taught Elementary Japanese 102.

I enjoy utilizing my skills to bridge the language gap, and thus strengthen communication.
