35 years as a journalist in Australia/New Zealand, Pacific Islands (Suva, Honiara, Port Moresby), Asia (Jakarta, Singapore, Manila, Brunei), the Middle East (Beirut) and Europe (The Netherlands). Language is my tool and how I make a living. English is my main language, but as a full-time translator Dutch is my source language, almost exclusively Dutch > English. I am very broadly educated, frequently translate technical/engineering documents and have a legal background as well. In principle, I have no "preferences" and have handled material in almost every field.
I am a one-man band, work from home, and although I operate as an "independent entrepreneur", I work both directly for individual clients and for third parties, meaning translation agencies. Clients I bill directly pay a little more than what I charge if I work via a translation agency.
