Translation - English 4.1 The Law of Attraction Through Movement
Through the years we have confirmed how the patterns of thought that generate our behavior, the paradigms that we use to interpret reality, and the unwanted situations which repeat themselves in our lives are related to styles of movement and dance.
Our mind and emotions condition our movement: “the mind creates reality”. The repetition of lively, integrated movements can change our emotions and our way of thinking, thereby changing reality, attracting new and enriching life experiences and cleansing us on all levels. “We are what we are in movement.” (Javier de la Sen)
4.2 Working With the Shadow
The shadow is the collection of archetypes which constitute our buried self, formed in earliest infancy, result of the emotional transactions between children and their caretakers.
It is absolutely necessary to recognize it and accept it in order to integrate it with the conscious, thereby achieving a better connection with our true Self (the beginning of individuation.)
The shadow which has not yet been integrated with the conscious generates a multitude of projections and mental “noise”. The projected shadow causes us to accuse others of the defects which nest inside ourselves, and which we do not like to recognize as such: egotism, laziness, cowardice, ambition, sentimentality, possessiveness, fear, indifference, etc. (Marie Louise von Franz)
The biodance system Javier de la Sen contributes to the process of individuation through work with masks.
4.3 Presence in the Here and Now
We are not what we think nor what we feel. Beyond these actions of the conscious, conditioned from our earliest infancy, is our authentic Self, the Presence, cause and effect of our existence and of the phenomenons of consciousness.
The proposal is to become conscious of our Being, of our presence in the here and now, observing the emotions, sensations and thoughts that arise in the experience of Biodance, with the object of strengthening the connection with our true Self, the inner Observer, to live with more clarity and intensity each moment of our lives, and not to let ourselves be hindered by emotions and thoughts that can alter the psychological equilibrium and the vital subconscious. (Eckart Tole)
4.4 The Integration of Polarity
In every aspect of nature and every form of organism, everything has an opposite: night and day, cold and hot, masculine and feminine, good and evil, left and right hemispheres, love and hate, aggression and tenderness, etc.
All the polar pairs are part of our nature, and in themselves are complementary. We are the ones who limit the conscious mind by passing our judgment, considering some “poles” satisfactory and some not.
Each opposite has a great affinity for its partner. It is important not to deny this affinity, but to confront it so that they “listen”, “recognize” and “understand” each other. This way they may be integrated so that their mutual harmony and equilibrium may rise to the forefront (Perls and Peñarubia), which helps us to not live in a disassociated state.
Duality is a tendency of thought and behavior. These are tied to each person’s particular history and his or her perception of inner reality. This reality ensures that polarities are developed whose characteristics are acceptable or unacceptable for its own consciousness.
By taking the part of one or other polar opposite, we create two unconscious entities: the “idealized self” which we affirm and accept, and the “denied self” which we avoid or repress. Maintaining this denial involves the consumption of vital energy, internal tensions, and repression of capacities which we deny when the environment demands of us that they be actualized. This generates neurotic tendencies knows as mechanisms of the ego’s defense: rationalization, sublimation, denial, etc.
In this way the organism loses the capacity for self-regulation, capacity for expression of the emotions, the senses and the body and generates neurotic tendencies.
In Biodance we work meticulously on the polarity through different tracks of experience, cleansing these tendencies and tensions and allowing the expression of emotions and instincts.
