I am an American who lived for over 20 years in Wiesbaden, Germany, employed by a German Nachrichtenagentur GmbH. My work included journalism, part-time translation from German, and extensive work as English-language editor of translated articles and Special Reports on finance and economics, politics, history, and cultural questions. The material was primarily translated from German, but also from French, and Italian, so I have a lot of experience in turning translated texts into excellent English. I speak/read/write German (including some Hessisch!).
Working at a news agency, I always had to meet strict deadlines and produce high quality and well-written translated and edited texts. My work as a journalist focused on finance, economics, and political affairs.
During the recent eight years, and after I returned to the US, I have been working as a free-lance translator from German to English.
I specialize in the fields of history, financial affairs, economics, transportation, and international relations. In addition to these areas, I have translated books on German and general European military history, rail transport, jewelry, and cooking (which I especially enjoy).
I travelled throughout Europe and the United Kingdom, and am well acquainted with the English of the United Kingdom, as well as American English. I also travelled extensively throughout Europe, and to China, India, Indonesia, Thailand, and Israel.
I am 65, and have a BA in psychology and English from Bryn Mawr College.
