I offer translation from Russian into English and from English into Russian. Although Russian is technically my native language, I have spent most of my adult life in the United States and actually prefer translating into my adoptive English, in which I have a Ph.D from the University of California at Berkeley and in which I have published a scholarly book and a number of specialist articles. My translator specialty is texts in the humanities in the broadest sense of the term. I’m at home translating general and scholarly texts in the arts, social sciences, literature, etc, including interdisciplinary texts. Since English literature and its style are my professional fields, I can also translate personal essays of any kind or fiction.
I modestly believe that I belong to a rare kind of translator who is equally well versed in not only both languages, but also in both cultures – an important feature if one is to provide a quality translation, since it is cultural contexts that largely determine language usage, its conventions and styles. Therefore I can be called upon to translate accurately and with a deep understanding of the original. Where subject matter is new to me, I never cut corners and do conscientious research, so that the translation I produce is a faithful and thought-through reflection of the original.
I should also mention that for more than five years I have been teaching English (both composition and literature) to its native speakers – American students –and have an excellent sense of style and convention. I divide my time almost equally between the Russian and Anglophone contexts and have put my knowledge to use when translating a vast variety of texts, from specialist essays and conference presentations, to plays and film scripts.
I’d be happy to forward my complete academic CV should you request that and to evaluate or discuss your project whether in Russian or in English by e-mail or Skype. I keep my prices reasonable: depending on difficulty and deadlines, I typically charge between 15 and 25 dollars for 1800 characters.
