English to Chinese: Research Paper on Workplace Design
Source text - English Contemporary living is inseparable from media, information and the web. In his trilogy: City of Bits (1995), e-topia (1999) and Me++ (2003), William J. Mitchell examines the roles and impacts of digital and computing technologies on everyday living and provides us with his fresh insights on everyday life and our surroundings are transforming under such influences. The emergence of these technologies is arguably the force of the century for innovation in all domains. Workplace as an essential part of our holistic living environment has played an important role in this revolutionary process. While Mitchell has laid out the vision, we are now looking for the integration and extension of this vision with respect to our traditional notions of place. The critical issues now are how to design this new kind of workplace so that it adapts to our changing needs, and even further, so that places are curious about our changing patterns of usage and our changing technologies.
Nowadays, especially with the expansion of Generation Y, the corporate world has embraced the use of digital information and computer software in workflows, the application of networked technologies in communication, and the integration of electronics means in business operation. These new phenomena have indeed been gradually reshaping business models, communication methods, and organization structures, as well as workplace designs. Rather than seeing the future of the workplace as a more confusing array of computers and cables, this paper proposes three ways in which the workplace will be transformed to a place in which the boundaries and our interactions with the physical and the digital worlds are blurred. We see the workplace as a new kind of media place, an augmented reality place and a curious responsive place.
