Born in Iceland 1943/06/13, moved to Germany in 1994. Studied English, German, Icelandic and philosophy at the University of Leeds (England) 1964-1967, German and applied lingustics at the University of Kiel (Germany) 1967-1968, foreign language didactics, computer science and data processing at the University of Gießen (Germany) 1987-1988.

Publicly appointed translator for German, English and Icelandic in Iceland (Icelandic Ministry of Justice, 30.09.1975).
Svorn and accredited translator for German and Icelandic in Germany (Stuttgart Regional Court, 02.11.1998).
Have taken numerous courses in language didactics, document translation, computing and tourist guiding in Iceland, England and Germany.
Professional experience :
1968-1987 and 1988-1990: Teacher of German, English and Icelandic at the Junior College in Akureyri (Iceland).
1970-1990: Tourist guide and translator in Iceland (part time).
1990-1994: Full time freelance translator and tourist guide in Iceland.
1994-2011: Freelance teacher (English, German, Icelandic, PC-computing), translator, editor and lecturer in Germany.
Since 2012: Freelance translator and proofreader/editor of Icelandic in Germany.
Beside documents, brochures, manuals etc I have translated 25 books from German and English into Icelandic, including novels, children’s books, geographic and topographic descriptions and documentary film texts.
I am a co-author of two study books in German for junior colleges in Iceland and the chief editor and translator of the three-volumed work „Úr torfbæjum inn í tækniöld” (publ. Örn og Örlygur, Reykjavík 2003), based on ethnographic and geographic reports of several German explorers and travellers in the Iceland of the 1920s and 1930s (appointed as the best Icelandic non-fiction work in 2003).
