Translation - Romanian Suceava
Suceava was the political and ecclesiastic centre of Moldavia for two centuries, from the 1380s – during the reign of prince Petru I – until Alexandru Lăpuşneanu’s second reign (1564-1568), when the capital city was moved to Iaşi, at the order of the Ottoman Empire. During this period, the city occupied the area between the Carpathians, the Dniester and the Danube. With the lapse of time the city grew and it developed, becoming the centre of the Metropolitan See of Moldavia and hosting a local hierarch. Its spiritual and artistic expansion is testified by the many medieval churches which continue to display immense formal and decorative variety.
Currently, the city is the administrative centre of the county with the same name, an area with a rich touristic potential, with numerous sights worth seeing. The network of modern roads, together with many hotels and boarding houses, contributes to this.
