What if I miss the application deadline? Late applications are placed on the wait list in the order in which they are received.
When is the lottery? The lotteries for Girls Prep Bronx and Girls Prep Lower East Side (Elementary and Middle) will take place on April 12, 2012. The lotteries take place at the schools. The lotteries are open to the public. Attendance is NOT mandatory.
When will I find out if my daughter has been admitted? Lottery results will be available in the week following the lottery. We make individual phone calls to all families whose daughter was accepted. In addition, all applicants receive a formal letter by mail with their status. Please email [email protected] or call 212-346-6000 ext. 108 or 109 if you don’t hear from by the end of April.
How does the wait list work? After the lottery, if a seat opens up in our school it is immediately offered to the applicant at the top of the wait list. Many students from the wait list are offered seats in our school.
How old does my daughter have to be to attend Girls Prep? Your application will only be accepted if your child turns five (5) years old on or before December 31, 2012. Proof of age will be required at our school’s Orientation.
What is sibling preference? We give preference in our lottery to siblings. Sisters of currently enrolled students receive a seat in the school where their sibling attends. Two children are siblings if they have the same parent(s) or live in the same home (same address).
What is residence-based preference? We give preference in our lottery to students who live in the same school district as our schools. Girls Prep Bronx gives preference in the lottery to students who live in Community School District 8. Girls Prep Lower East Side gives preference in the lottery to students who live in Community School District 1. If I applied last year, do I have to apply again? Yes. Applications and wait lists do not “roll over.”
How do I get to the school? We’re close to the Jackson Avenue stop on the 2 and 5 trains and the E 149th Street stop on the 6 train. The BX17, BX19, BX6 and BX4 buses are also nearby. We’re close to the 2nd Ave Lower East side stop on the F and V trains. If you take the 2 train to 14th street and transfer to the M14D you can also access the school that way. We’re close to the 1st Avenue stop off of the L train. From there, you walk 3 blocks south on 1st avenue and turn left on 11th Street.

What is an IEP? An Individualized Educational Program (IEP) describes the special education and related services specifically designed to meet the unique educational needs of a student with a disability. An IEP is the guiding document for a student's educational program. It includes all of the goals, objectives, present levels of performance and related services that are recommended for the student. The IEP must be tailored to the individual student's needs as identified by the evaluation process and must help teachers and related service providers understand the student's disability and how the disability affects the learning process. In other words, the IEP should describe how the student learns, how the student best demonstrates that learning and what teachers and service providers will do to help the student learn more effectively.
My daughter has an IEP – can she come to Girls Prep? Yes, your daughter is welcome to apply to Girls Prep. Girls Prep is an inclusive school and does not discriminate against any children. Girls Prep offers educational services specifically for children with IEPs.

¿Qué es un IEP, por sus siglas en inglés? Un Individualized Educational Program (IEP, por sus siglas en inglés) es un programa educativo individual.
