Source text - English From 1964 on, Palatnik developed his Kinetic Objects series, an offshoot of his cinechromatic pieces. Works such as Kinetic Communication (1967) feature internal operating mechanisms but lack light projections. Here, as in most of his production, Palatnik incorporated mathematical elements, challenging traditional ways of
experiencing art. Kinetic Object (1986) is a cluster of fully exposed mechanisms built out of bits of machinery, engines and moving magnetic rods which support colourful geometric shapes. His more recent abstract paintings such as W-222 (2008) are also kinetic constructions in which he portrays undulations and reliefs with layers of paint. Here again his primary concern is movement, followed by colour.

Source text - Portuguese Os negros do Brasil, trazidos principalmente da costa ocidental da África, foram capturados meio ao acaso nas centenas de povos tribais que falavam dialetos e línguas não inteligíveis uns aos outros. A África era, então, como ainda o é hoje, em larga medida, uma imensa Babel de línguas. Embora mais homogêneos no plano da cultura, os africanos variavam também largamente nessa esfera. Tudo isso fazia com que a uniformidade racial não correspondesse a uma unidade linguístico-cultural que ensejasse uma unificação, quando os negros se encontraram submetidos todos à escravidão. A própria religião, que hoje, após ser trabalhada por gerações e gerações, constitui-se uma expressão da consciência negra, em lugar de unifica-los, então, os desunia. Foi até utilizada como fator de discórdia.
Translation - English The Negroes in Brazil, brought mainly from the West coast of Africa, were captured somewhat randomly among the hundreds of tribal peoples who spoke dialects and languages unintelligible to each other. Africa was then, as it still is now, mainly a huge Babel of languages. Although culturally more homogeneous, africans varied greatly in that aspect as well. The result was such that racial uniformity did not correspond to a linguistic and cultural unity that led to a unification when the Negroes found themselves all subjected to slavery. Religion itself, after being shaped by many generations, and which today is a constituent element of black awareness, instead of bringing them together then, set them apart. It was even used as a factor of discord.
