Source text - English 1808: Samuel Ellis's heirs sell the island to New York State and later in the year the Federal Government pays $10,000 for it. The name Ellis Island stuck.
1812: Shortly before the War of 1812, between the USA and what would eventually become Canada, a battery of 20 guns, a magazine and a barracks are constructed on the island.
1855: The great famines of the 1840
had led to a sharp increase in immigration to the United States.
1857: The Great Neapolitan earthquake caused devastation in the Basilicata region of Italy killing over 30,000 people and resulting in the loss of thousands of homes. Italians started to look towards the United States for a safer and more stable future.
1860: Immigration was encouraged due to industrialization and the growth of industry and the railroads during the 1860's and thousands of Italians added to the increasing number of immigrants to the US.
1880: In the 1880's the number of Italian immigrants to the U.S. totaled 600,000.

Source text - English July 10, 1943, during an offensive named Operation Husky, more than 25 thousand soldiers of the First Canadian Corp belonging to the impressive allied forces, landed at Pachino [Pah-kee-noh], in the southern tip of Sicily.
Thus began the beginning of the Italian Campaign. On the occasion of the 70th anniversary, Canadian Company has launched a campaign to remember and honour those compatriots who fought and died in the months of July and August 1943 in Sicily.
Operation Husky was the first independent strategic operation of World War II.Canadians lost more than 2300 lives, of which almost 500 were soldiers perished in this
battle.
Almost half a million allied, opposed Italian and German forces during the month and a half-long campaign.
Operation Husky began on the night of July 9 1943.The Canadian
Regiment approached from the south, landing
at Pachino [Pah-kee noh].
70 years later, we retrace the march
of those soldiers.

impresionantes fuerzas aliadas, desembarcaron en
Pachino[Pa‐qui-no], en el extremo sur de Sicilia.
Así comenzó (el inicio de) la Campaña de Italia. En ocasión
del aniversario 70, Canadian Company lanzó una
campaña (operación) para recordar y
honrar a aquellos compatriotas que lucharon
y murieron en los meses de julio y agosto del año 1943 en Sicilia.
La operación Husky fue la primera operación estratégica
independiente de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Entre los
canadienses hubo más de 2300 muertos, de los cuales
casi 500 fueron soldados que perdieron la vida en esta
batalla.
Casi medio millón de Aliados se opusieron a las fuerzas
italianas y alemanas durante esa campaña de mes y medio.
La operación Husky empezó la noche del 9 de Julio del año 1943. El Regimiento Canadiense se aproximó por el
sur, desembarcando en Pachino [Pa‐qui-no].
70 años después, dibujamos de nuevo la marcha de esos soldados.

I began my studies in Communication Studies at York University, Toronto and I obtained also a Spanish-English and English-Spanish Translation Certificate at Glendon College, York University. I am very passionate about media, from audiovisual translation to production and storytelling. I have experience in transcription and translation of audiovisual texts such as documentaries, TV series and feature films. Although I have a strong interest in media my main passion is music.
