Bio
Allison L McManus is a recent graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara’s Masters in Global and International Studies program. At UCSB Allison studied society and politics of North Africa, viewed through the lens of human rights and democratic practice. Allison’s final thesis, entitled Seasons in Morocco: Deliberative Street Politics and Sacralized Dissent, explored the dialectical relationship between authoritarian regimes and popular political expressions. Allison spent six months in Morocco conducting research for the thesis, working with local activists and community organizers.

Allison currently works as a freelance writer, editor and researcher. She contributes as a co-editor of the Maghreb page of e-zine Jadaliyya.com, as part of the Washington DC based Arab Studies Institute. Allison’s work has appeared in the National, Paris’ Courrier International. She has been credited for research on topics of globalization, labor rights and democracy, and is currently developing an Instructor’s Manual for a new Global Studies textbook to be published through the University of California Press.

Prior to attending UCSB, Allison worked as an account manager at EF Educational Tours, where she managed a $3.5MM client portfolio. She was selected to lead teacher trainings on the benefits of international education, both in the US and abroad.
